Project Information

Ledtronics Hybrid Energy Company successfully delivered a high-performance hybrid power solution at Golden Valley Mine, located in Kadoma, Zimbabwe. The project combined the synchronization of a 12MVA diesel genset plant of 26 generators with an 8MW solar PV system and an 8MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), creating a reliable, efficient and cost-effective energy infrastructure tailored for mining operations.

Mining operations demand uninterrupted and stable power to maintain productivity, safety and equipment longevity. Ledtronics engineered a hybrid energy system designed to reduce fuel consumption, lower operational costs and minimize environmental impact, while maintaining the robust reliability required in heavy industrial environments.

Scope of Project

The project involved full engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a 12MVA generator synchronization system comprising 26 gensets, alongside an 8MW solar power plant and an 8MWh battery energy storage system. The genset synchronization ensures seamless load sharing, optimized fuel efficiency and improved redundancy, while the solar plant and battery storage offset daytime energy demand and significantly reduce diesel dependency.

Through intelligent control systems and hybrid integration technology, the solar PV plant operates in harmony with the diesel generators, automatically balancing loads and prioritizing solar generation when available. This hybrid configuration enhances system stability, reduces carbon emissions and extends generator lifespan.

  • Design and synchronization of a 12MVA diesel generator plant (26 gensets) for stable load sharing.
  • Engineering, installation and commissioning of an 8MW ground-mounted solar PV plant.
  • Integration of an 8MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for load shifting, peak shaving and backup power.
  • Integration of hybrid control systems for optimized fuel savings and operational efficiency.
  • Improved power reliability, reduced downtime and lower operating costs for Golden Valley Mine.

This project demonstrates Ledtronics’ capability to deliver scalable hybrid energy solutions for mining and industrial sectors, combining renewable energy innovation with dependable thermal generation systems to ensure maximum performance and sustainability.
